University & hospitals in Trier – a quiet home when the days are hard.

Some guests don't come to Trier for the Romans. They're accompanying a relative to hospital, giving a guest lecture at the university, coming for a selection interview or an aptitude test, starting a job at the hospital or covering for a colleague for a few weeks. We wrote this page for those guests: where the university, the university of applied sciences and the hospitals are, which of our apartments is closest to each, and how to get there – by car, bus or on foot.
The institutions – and where they are
The former Mutterhaus site in Ehrang has been closed since the 2021 floods – if you had an appointment there, it now takes place at Mitte or Nord.
Which apartment for what
Trier University: The Olewig Suite is in the wine village of Olewig, directly below the Tarforst plateau – a few minutes by car to campus, and in the evening you sit among the vineyards. Two bedrooms, kitchen, free parking: it suits a visiting lecturer with family as much as two applicants arriving for the same selection day. Without a car, the LOFT34 in Pallien is the better choice – from there it's a quarter of an hour on foot to the main station and line 3 takes you to campus.
University of Applied Sciences: Our house in Pallien sits at the foot of the hill on which the Schneidershof stands. LOFT34 (for two, with a comfortable workspace) and Red Rock Home (for four, with two balconies) are the apartments closest to the campus – and in the evening you walk into the old town.
Brüderkrankenhaus and Mutterhaus Mitte: Here too, Pallien is the shortest address. From the Red Rock Home and LOFT34 you walk across the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Brücke and stand in front of the Brüderkrankenhaus after about 20 minutes; the Mutterhaus Mitte is reached by bus or in just under half an hour on foot. If you're a relative commuting between hospital and apartment every day, that saves you the parking search and the parking fees.
Mutterhaus Nord: From our apartments in Biewer – Deluxe Suite, Soho Home, Studio21 – and from the Boho Home in Ehrang you're there in around ten minutes by car, and you park for free at both houses. Ehrang also has a station with regional trains to the main station in eight minutes.
Why an apartment and not a hotel
Because the days are hard. If you have to be at the hospital at seven in the morning or are still correcting manuscripts in the evening, you need quiet, a table to work at and a kitchen instead of takeaways. Every one of our apartments has its own workspace, Wi-Fi at 250 Mbit/s, a fully equipped kitchen and blackout curtains – which help when the rota shifts your sleep earlier or later.
Check-in works around the clock via smart lock – even after the late shift. Bed linen, towels and final cleaning are included in the price. And you receive an invoice with VAT itemised – made out to the institute, the hospital or your employer on request.
Staying longer
For locum cover, clinical electives, the practical year, guest semesters and the start of a new job there's MonatsMiete+: from one month, a fixed all-inclusive monthly rent, up to 24 months, extendable. That gives you a furnished apartment from day one and time to look for something of your own at leisure – or you simply stay.
If you're not sure which apartment suits your institution: send us a quick email or text saying where you need to be and how long you're staying. We know the routes and will tell you honestly what fits best. More about the locations: Pallien, Olewig, Biewer & Ehrang.
