Olewig – vineyards on the doorstep, the Romans round the corner.

Olewig is Trier's wine village. The district lies to the south-east, in a side valley behind the amphitheatre, surrounded by the vineyards where Trier's winegrowers work. Live here and you wake up to vines outside the window – yet you're in the old town within minutes. Our Olewig Suite is on Olewiger Straße, the village street lined with wine estates – and it's one of the three apartments our guests most often pick as their favourite.
Why Olewig
Because here you get both. The city: from the amphitheatre at the edge of the village it's a ten-minute walk to the Kaiserthermen, then on through the Palastgarten to the cathedral. And the village: winegrowers pouring their wines in their own courtyards, a wine trail through the vines, and in summer the biggest wine festival in the city. In the evening you sit in a wine tavern less than five minutes from the apartment and walk back afterwards without a thought for the car.
The estates within walking distance also appear in our Trier guide. On Olewiger Straße itself they include Weingut Peter Terges (no. 145) a few houses along, the Deutschherrenhof with its wine tavern (no. 181) and, further up, Becker's (no. 206) with winery, hotel and the Michelin-starred restaurant we recommend for a special evening. In Tiergarten, a part of Olewig, you'll find Weingut von Nell. For tastings at the estates it's best to phone ahead – at weekends especially, the courtyards fill up.
Getting here and getting around
By car you drive into the village along Olewiger Straße; a free parking space is waiting at the apartment. Luxembourg City is a good half hour away via the A 64, and Trier University up on the Tarforst plateau just a few minutes – Olewig borders directly on the campus district.
Without a car you take the bus. Line 7 runs from the Konstantin-Basilika to Olewig in around six minutes, and further lines stop at Hunsrückstraße. That puts the main station about a quarter of an hour away. If you like walking: it's roughly 35 minutes on foot to the Hauptmarkt, past the amphitheatre and the Kaiserthermen – there are worse ways to walk into town.
The Olewig Suite
The suite is at Olewiger Straße 136 and made for up to four guests: two proper bedrooms, one with a double bed, one with two single beds – which works for families as well as for two couples or colleagues who'd rather not share a bed. Add a fully equipped kitchen, a stylish bathroom, smart TV and fast Wi-Fi. The setting is quiet and green, and the wine estates are your neighbours.
Check-in is via smart lock from 4 pm, with no key handover. Bed linen, towels and final cleaning are included. And if you're coming for a semester or a project: from one month the suite is available through MonatsMiete+ at a fixed monthly rate.
Who Olewig suits
Wine lovers, obviously – nobody else in Trier stays this close to the winegrowers. Families who want to explore the Roman monuments on foot and come home to greenery in the evening. Visitors to Trier University who'd like to live a few minutes from campus without ending up in a hall of residence. And anyone with a celebration in Trier who doesn't want a long drive afterwards.
All our tips for the city – Roman monuments, food, our 48-hour plan – are in the Trier travel guide.
