Summer in Trier – wine festivals, riverbanks, Roman stones.

Summer on the Moselle is loud, warm and close to the water: wine stalls on the Hauptmarkt, the Altstadtfest, the Zurlaubener Heimatfest right on the riverbank, the Olewig wine festival in early August – and in between, days on the bike, boat trips and evenings when the Porta Nigra stays floodlit until ten. For the summer holidays (Rhineland-Palatinate, North Rhine-Westphalia, the Netherlands, Belgium), Trier is the destination for anyone who doesn't want a six-hour drive to the sea – and still wants river, wine and city all in one.

Which apartment for which summer

For wine-festival weekends: the Olewig Suite in the middle of the wine village – from the festival straight to bed, no taxi needed. For groups of up to 8, the house in Konz-Filzen with the Saartal Suite and Saar Home, ten minutes from Trier and right on the Saar cycle path.

For families: the Deluxe Suite in Biewer with a panoramic balcony over the Moselle valley, a digital piano and parking at the house; the Kylltalperle in Kordel if you'd like it cooler in the valley – Kyll cycle path, Ramstein Castle and a train to Trier right outside the door.

For the city: Red Rock Home in Pallien, on foot across the Kaiser Wilhelm Bridge into the old town and to the Moselle riverbank.

When is the Olewig wine festival?

Traditionally on the first weekend of August, Friday to Monday, right in the Olewig district. The exact date each year is published by Trier Tourist Information.

Do the apartments have air conditioning?

Our apartments don't have air conditioning – like almost all houses on the Moselle, we rely on shutters, cross-ventilation and the cooler nights in the valley. The Kylltalperle in Kordel and the houses in Konz are noticeably cooler than the city centre. If this matters to you, just ask us by email or text before booking.

Can we barbecue?

Not inside the apartment – and on balconies only where the house rules allow it. Drop us a message beforehand and we'll tell you honestly what's possible where. The public barbecue spots on the Moselle riverbank in Trier are the more relaxed alternative.

Where's the nearest outdoor pool or swimming spot?

There are outdoor pools in Trier-Nord and Konz; the Moselle isn't an official bathing water, but canoeing, SUP and boat trips from Zurlauben and Konz are the better choice in summer. The Saar loop has a bathing beach near Mettlach.

Is a full summer week in Trier worth it?

Yes: two city days (Roman monuments, cathedral, museums), two cycling days (Moselle, Saar), one day in Luxembourg, one day at the Saar loop or in the Eifel – and a wine festival in between. From seven nights it usually gets cheaper per night; you'll see the price in the booking calendar.
