Konz & the Saar Valley: Your guide to wine, water and wide-open views
Ten minutes south of Trier, the Saar flows into the Moselle – and right here, in Konz, one of Germany's most underrated regions for wine and good living begins. While Trier is the stage for history, Konz is the stage for landscape: vineyards on both banks, cycle paths right beside the water, and family-run wineries where it's still the family themselves pouring the wine. Here's our in-depth guide to the area around our Saartal Suite and Saar Home.

Our Saartal Suite and Saar Home sit in Konz-Filzen, right between the vineyards and the river – and can be booked together for up to 8 guests. Wine from the winemaker next door in the evening, mist over the valley in the morning: that's the moment our guests come back for.
Getting here
Konz lies just about ten minutes south of Trier, where the Saar flows into the Moselle – combining wine country and a city break with no compromise. By car you're quickly in Trier or Luxembourg via the A64, and at our apartments in Konz-Filzen you park for free right at the house. If you prefer the train: Konz station is well connected, and you reach Trier in about ten minutes.
For anyone who likes to be active, the Saar cycle path begins practically at the doorstep – flat, close to the river, with wineries and places to stop along the way all the way up to Saarburg. The nearest airports are Luxembourg and Frankfurt-Hahn, both easy to reach by rental car.
Filzen, the Saar valley and who Konz is ideal for
Our Saartal Suite and Saar Home are in the same house in Konz-Filzen and can be booked together for up to eight people – one arrival, one address, two complete apartments. That is exactly what makes Konz the first choice for families and groups who want to stay together yet keep their own retreat.
All around lies one of the loveliest wine regions in the area: the König Johann estate is a few steps away, the famous Van Volxem wine manufactory in the Wiltingen Saar loop ten minutes further. The Roscheider Hof open-air museum is one of the nicest family destinations around, and the small old town of Saarburg with its waterfall right in the centre is worth half a day. Anyone looking for peace, nature and good wine while keeping the city within reach is exactly right in Konz.
And the place itself has its quiet highlights: the moment at the confluence where the Saar flows into the Moselle, with a riverside promenade and marina for an evening stroll; the Igel Column a few minutes away, the best-preserved Roman funerary monument north of the Alps and a UNESCO World Heritage site. In autumn, at harvest time, when mist hangs over the steep vineyards, the Saar valley shows its finest side – and in summer you sit by the water with a glass of Riesling after a bike ride.
