Trier is four-river country: the Moselle, Saar, Kyll and Ruwer all meet around the city, and each river has its own cycle path – flat, paved, almost entirely away from traffic. Best of all: nearly every ride can be planned one-way, because the regional trains carry bikes. Ride out, stop for food and wine, roll home by rail.

🥨Stops along the wayThe truth about cycling on the Moselle: it's a ride from one wine stand to the next. From spring to autumn, winemakers pour right beside the path – peaking in Federweißer season, when the young, still-fermenting wine is out.Don't forget to drink water. Really.
Our favourite day loop
In the morning, ride up the Saar from Trier or Konz to Saarburg (a leisurely two hours), then old town, waterfall and lunch. Back either the same way – or by train in twenty minutes while your legs clock off. Want more? Add the Upper Moselle stretch to Wasserbillig and you've got a proper full-day tour.
