Autumn on the Moselle: grape harvest, morning mist and steep slopes turning gold

Autumn on the Moselle: grape harvest, morning mist and steep slopes turning gold

When the steep vineyard slopes turn golden in September, the Moselle shows its best side. The grape harvest is in full swing, the villages are celebrating, and in the mornings mist lies over the river, dissolving into sunshine by midday.

Why autumn, of all seasons?

The summer holidays are over, prices are gentler, and the region once again belongs to those who come to savour it. Walks through the vineyards are far more pleasant at 18 degrees than at 32 – and Federweißer, the young new wine, only tastes like this right now.

Autumn wine festivals 2026

  • Trier wine festival in Olewig (starting early August, winding down well into autumn)
  • Federweißer festivals along the Upper Moselle (September)
  • Grape harvest experience days at wineries in Konz and Wiltingen (October)
